Vivekananda Junior College
The highest educational goal of a nation is to create ideal citizens and individuals who are capable of fulfilling their own goals and striving to create a progressive society. With this vision of ‘Man-making’, Vivekananda Jr. College (VJC) was established in the year 2003, by Sri N.C. Paul at Chengkuri Road, Silchar- 7. In his sacred endeavour, he was inspired by his friend Dr. P. Nath Choudhury, former principal of G.C. College. The College was inaugurated by Prof. Subhas Saha, the former Vice Chancellor of Assam University Silchar. Vivekananda Jr. College is a co educational Jr. College affiliated to Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). The College seeks to provide education to all sections of the society, irrespective of religion, caste or community. The College is managed by a managing committee. The Committee comprises of a group of eminent persons of Silchar town. It is constituted under the provision of Assam Non Government College Management (Amendment) Rules 2009 and it reserves the rights in all matters related to educational, administrative and management policies.
Two Year Higher Secondary courses

The College offers H.S. course in Commerce, Arts and Science streams. The H.S. course comprises of two examinations viz. H.S. 1st year and H.S. 2nd year respectively and its examinations are conducted following all the rules and regulations prescribed by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Guwahati - 2l. Inspite of its humble beginning, the spectacular performance of the students of this college in the H.S. Examination 2008, infused the movement to introduce the Arts stream in 2008. Again, catering to a massive public demand, the college authorities have introduced the much awaited Science stream in 2014 and now it becomes a full- fledged Junior College of Arts, Science and Commerce streams.
Aims and Objectives

The aim of Vivekananda Jr. College is to help students develop into successful human beings. It seeks to help the students to attain physical, cognitive and moral development. It also aims for the development of independent thinking and democratic attitude and cultivate an ardent determination and exceptional skill to face any odds and challenges of life. The college also aims to cultivate respect, dignity, modesty, discipline and all such values which enrich our culture and make a better society. With sincerity and utmost dedication, the college seeks to provide the best of guidance to the students.
General Rules and Regulations of the College

1. Attendance : 75% attendance is a must. 60% and above but less than 75% attendance will be treated as non-collegiate and may be considered only on legal guardians (Father/Mother) undertaking to establish the genuineness of the case with valid supporting documents and if justified to consider will have to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000/- (Five Thousand) only. Less than 60% attendance does not fall under the purview of consideration for any reason(s) whatsoever.

2. Leave on Medical Ground : Only if one be hospitalized / unable to move for sudden physical disorder, may apply for leave on medical ground with various supporting documents in addition to medical certificate as a proof for genuineness of the respective case. Under such condition maximum 10-15 days leave on medical ground may be allowed for attendance purpose only. No leave on medical ground be allowed for any other purpose(s) / reason(s) whatsoever.

3. Rules to Sit in Unit Tests : Two Unit Tests are mandatory for H.S. 1st year and H.S. 2nd year classes. If one remains absent for more than two days in a week will not be allowed to sit in the Unit Tests. Students remaining absent for 2 days in a week, legal guardians (Father / Mother) are to inform the reason(s) of absence in writing otherwise the defaulting students will not be allowed to sit in the Unit Tests. Attendance of students will be taken at the end of each week to ascertain the qualifying attendance to sit in the Unit Tests at the beginning of next week.

4. Unit Tests : Each paper in the Unit Tests will carry 30 (Thirty) marks and the qualifying marks in each paper will be 9 (Nine) marks for all streams of the respective classes. Average marks of each paper of the two unit tests will be taken into consideration for ascertaining the qualifying 9 (Nine) marks which will be added with the marks obtained in the Pre-Final Examination to be conducted by the College at the end of the session. None will be allowed to sit in the Pre-Final Examination unless appears in all papers in the two Unit Tests and has obtained the qualifying 9 (Nine) marks stated above.

5. Pre-Final Examination (The Qualifying Examination to fill-up the respective Final Examination Form) : Each paper in the Pre-Final Examination will carry 70 (Seventy) marks for all streams of H.S. 1st year and H.S. 2nd year classes and the qualifying marks in each paper will be 21 (Twenty one) marks. Only the students obtaining the qualifying 30 (Thirty) marks in each paper (9 marks in each paper in the Unit Test cited above and 21 marks in each paper in the Pre-Final Examination) out of 100 marks (Taking together 30 marks of Unit Tests and 70 marks of PreFinal Examination) will be allowed to fill-up the respective Final Examination Form.

6. Students should be punctual in attending classes. None will be allowed to enter the College five minutes after the class bell rings.
